Description
A female broadbill hummingbird with a graceful arc in her wingspan. This bird was photographed in Madera Canyon, in the Bog Springs Campground, in the Coronado National Forest near Green Valley, Arizona, south of Tucson. Note that you can see her eyelases, more properly called orbital feathers, quite clearly in this photograph. While she doesn't have the redder beak and brighter head, throat, and chest coloring of the male, she's still a very photogenic bird, and this image shows her iridescent green body and blue tail, and downy breast and rump.
