Description
How do you lure a vermillion flycatcher to pose for a photo? You put a nice perch within easy distance from your camera, in the middle of his hunting grounds. Vermillion Flycatchers are insectivores, but they rest on low perches between short hunts. I found an open space, and put a nice perch about waist high to get this shot. Note that his body is facing away from me, and when he heard the camera, he turned his headaround to look at me.

Brilliant plumage pops against the gray of wing and tail feathers and gray of background. Eyes are sharp and clear with brilliant spot of sparkle or reflection. Such sharp talons and clear detail. Just a hint of motion from the tail feathers as if underscoring the momentary nature of the pose. You mention habitat and habits. Love your story about the capture, am always fascinated to read about / learn new things from your descriptions like with the spider.
