Artist's Description

This photograph is of Horsetail Falls in Yosemite National Park. This occurs at sunset in mid-February, as the last rays of the sun hit this section of El Capitan, if weather cooperates. There was a lot of snowfall this winter, so there is a lot more water than usual coming over all the falls in the park. The waterfall is the tail of the horse, the head is outlined in red in the boulders at the rim. The top of the waterfall is not illuminated. I have digitally enhanced the colors a bit, and I have a similar image of the same photo that is more photorealistic and cropped differently.

By the way, it was not a great eye that allowed me to find a photo, is was something very simple that I should do more often. When I visit a park, I make a habit of asking if there are any particularly outstanding photos I should look for, such as flowers in bloom, great views close enough to hike to shoot, or other iconic views.
