Birds fight over territory, and it's natural. But this beaten and tattered female struck me as sad. Hummingbirds mating relationships last only a few minutes, and then they are strictly competitors. Mutual agression and violence is natural for hummingbirds, but people should be more caring than that. Family violence is wrong.

I'm a photographer, though sometimes I experiment in other media. My mother was an artist, and on school holidays, when she had classes at the art museum, I got to spend entire days roaming the galleries of the Cincinnati Art Museum. My twin sister is an artist, and my father took up photography about the time I did, when I was in college.
