Description
This is a cuckoo wasp. This is one of several hundred species, so I have no idea which one it is.. It was photographed at the tree line in middle July at high altitude in Rocky Mountain National Park, near Estes Park, Colorado. Leave a comment if you know. Thank you!

Gregory, Wow this is quite the most colorful Wasp I have ever seen. Even a Wasp can be beautiful and have more colors than a Peacock... Well done.... Good Macro work! F/A..

V/F Beautiful creature! The antennae tell me it is a bee/wasp - possibly a solitary type. With a good picture or two, the folks at Bug Guide can help you with an ID. They are wonderful, the site is free, there is a huge data base for searching, and the folks will help you if you join and add decent pictures to the ID request page. http://bugguide.net/user/login?r=http%3A%2F%2Fbugguide.net%2Fwelcome
