The Linn Cove Viaducts is an S shaped bridge that is an iconic favorite view on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is the last section of the Blue Ridge Parkway to be completed when the highway was built.
This photograph is a good example of how you must take a little extra trouble to get a better shot. From the level of the road, the S shape is not pronounced at all. To get the feel of the curve, as seen in this photograph, you must climb above the road. You park at a turnout just north of the bridge, and walk about 100 yards south, back toward the bridge. Near mile marker 304, on the right side of the road, maybe 10 or 20 yards before the expansion joint of the bridge, there is a steep path next to a large rock. Climb up about 30 feet, and onto the somewhat precipitous edge of the rock, where you can carefully sit, and find 3 spots to put your tripod.
