A broadtailed hummingbird in a composite with a salvia flower and background. The bird was photographed in Duck Creek Campground in Dixie National Forest near Cedar Breaks, Utah and Cedar Breaks National Park. This is a high speed flash photo, taken with an Olsen Ultra flash, on half power, with a flash duration of 1/30000 second.

I'm a photographer, though sometimes I experiment in other media. My mother was an artist, and on school holidays, when she had classes at the art museum, I got to spend entire days roaming the galleries of the Cincinnati Art Museum. My twin sister is an artist, and my father took up photography about the time I did, when I was in college. I'm also a former machine tool programmer, database analyst, and mathematics and physics teacher, and those things undoubtedly have impact on my perceptions as well, as do my Christian perspective and philosophy. Well, technically, it's not a capture. It's 3 different images, carefully layered. But it is a salvia, hummingbird flower that this broadtail hummer would actually visit. And it's one of my best composite images, I think.
