Description
This is part of a series I am doing on characters, symbols, and logograms. Twitter has become the primary association that most people make with this character, often called the hash tag, hash mark, pound sign.
I'm an avid hummingbird photographer, so my choice of tweeters was quite obvious. Starting at the upper left and going clockwise around the outside, the hummingbirds are Lucifer, Rufous, Costas, Violet-Crowned, Blue-Throated, four Broad-Tailed, Annas, Broad-billed, and continuing to the last two, another Broad-billed, and a magnificent. All these birds can be found in southeast Arizona, except the ruby-throated hummingbird, which is found in the eastern US
Nothing here is to scale. The largest bird, is the Blue-Throated, followed by the Blue-Throated, for example. Likewise, the Lucifer hummingbird is not nearly as large as the Amaryllis flower, etc. The "trellis" of flowers in the hashtag are azaleas, and the flower on the bottom right is a Cardinal Vine flower. I'm unsure about the moss in the background, but it may be lycapodium moss.
You should zoom in on several birds before buying this print, to see if the "cutout" of each bird is distracting to you. It would be best printed at 12x18 or larger, or you might not be able to see the detail in this huge image.
