Description
I think this little guy is a white-tailed antelope squirrel, Ammospermophilus leucurus.
Cheeky ground squirrels will invade your campsite, and helpfully clean up any feed spilled by the birds. However, you may need to discourage them from raiding your feeders directly. It's good to avoid scattering seed on the ground to feed ground feeding birds, because doing so may attract rats, mice, and even poisonous snakes which feed on rats and mice. And then there are bears, skunks, and other unwelcome visitors that might get into the action. Feeding the animals is prohibited in National Parks. Bird feeding may or may not be permitted in specific national forests.
