Description
This is a composite photo. Broadbills do feed on this flower, but in this case I photographed the flower in Big Bend, Texas, and the hummingbird in Madera Canyon, Arizona. It's sort of a cosmopolitan photo.
I prefer to use a cardboard background so that I don't get complex backgrounds with underexposed lighting and bad composition. Because the light outdoors changes throughout the day, it's extremely difficult when doing high speed flash photography to get nice natural looking backgrounds. So for high speed flash, it's easier to blend in backgrounds taken just for that purpose. Likewise, with flowers themselves. The Octicillo with background landscape were shot specifically to make a good composite with hummingbirds.
